I might also be having some issues with my hearing and so I’m missing important dialog in shows such as Extrapolations. My wife suggests that I need to be paying more attention to the visual clues, of course. I guess I’m showing my age.

#

We almost cancelled Apple TV streaming service a while ago but then checked on upcoming shows. I’m glad that we stayed with the service at least for the time being and we are watching Extrapolations and the new season of Schmigadoon! both of which are excellent shows. I was a little bit confused by a subtle plot (albeit with lots of clues thrown in) for Episode 6 of Extrapolations, but thanks to this site’s explanation I’ve been able to confirm what I thought was going on.

I’ll need to process the flying puffin in Lightroom and upload it somewhere before I can post it here.

#

It’s a rainy day here in Seattle which is a bit of a pity for people on Spring Break. We lucked out on Tuesday however when we took advantage of blue skies to drive down to Tacoma from Edmonds to visit the Zoo. We had a great time and I even managed to capture some puffins in flight.

I’ve just reset my automatic crossposting of these Micro.blog entries to my Mastodon account. I find that I just wasn’t posting my thoughts to Micro.blog when I knew that such entries were automatically going to end up on my Mastodon instance. I guess I’m just funny that way but I want to keep more to myself and knowing that this community is smaller than the interest I get on Mastodon is encouraging me to just post more and not worry about content so much. I’m still going to keep posting on Mastodon, but I’m definitely keeping these two services at an arms length as far as my entries are concerned.

I’m reading Forever and a Day by Anthony Horowitz. It’s a James Bond novel which, to my knowledge, attempts to fit into the Ian Fleming Bond canon in the same way that his Sherlock Holmes novel The House of Silk tries hard to emulate the writing of Arthur Conan Doyle. An insightful article on the Horowitz bond books is also definitely worth a read for people wanting to catch up on what these books (and the original Ian Fleming novels) are all about.

We walking around Bridle Trails State Park this afternoon as part of our project of finding new and different places to exercise here in the Seattle region. I recommend the paths in this State Park but we are warned to keep an eye out for horses coming by. I’d actually also warn the unwary hiker to keep an eye out for horse manure on the trail.

The Sound is a lot smoother this afternoon than it was some 24 hours ago. #Edmonds #PNW

This is good to know. I tend to jump around from using an app on my iPhone to composing text on the desktop. Actually this entry is being written in Drafts on my iPhone.

We are happy to get to see the grand daughter (and daughter and son-in-law I might add) after a couple of weeks absence. They have just gotten back in town from a trip to Maui and my daughter says it was great to be some warm weather for a change, not to mention playing on the beach! Here in Edmonds at least the days are finally having a respectable amount of sunlight again. :)

#

I think it’s going to be a few more days (weeks?) before I can be certain that Spring actually has arrived in this part of the country even though there are plant buds showing up. #Edmonds #Seattle #pnw

#

Is spring arriving in Edmonds. What a great day to be out and about.

After our encounter with the swimmer we were heading back from the beach walking between the Edmonds breakwater and the Ferry Terminal when we stopped to talk to a man in a drysuit. He was about to head out into the Shoreline Sanctuary section of the Sound to catch site of harbor seals, etc. This person was very prepared for the cold water - hence the drysuit

While walking along the shore in Edmonds yesterday afternoon we saw a couple of people swimming in the Sound. Both individuals were swimming close to shore. A few minutes later we caught up with one of the swinners after he had come ashore and had a quick chat. He apparently has gotten in the hapit of a daily swim depite the winter cold after the local pools closed because of Covid. If it gets particularlly cold he will don a wetsuit but he wasn’t wearing one yesterday even though the temperature was in the 40s. And I gather the water in the Sound was a similar temperature.

We are taking advantage of the pleasant weather. A slightly different photo from the pier at Edmonds. This shot was actually taken using Halide in proRAW 48 bit mode on my iPhone Pro. This image is, of course, a jpg export. #photography.

#

He’s very enthusiastic to see, hear and photograph his first rocket launch. That’s something I really want to do but seeems increasinly unlikely with our move further away from that part of the country.

#

We had a new fridge delivered today and I’m glad to see that the main section of the fridge is very quickly heading below 40F! Our old fridge was never colder than the mid 40s although its freezer did manage to keep food items frozen.

Another great day in Edmonds - well actually this was a week ago. Not so bright today but still great to be living on short drive from the shore whatever the weather. This is a big plus for me since I grew up on the coast in Australia and have been missing the salt spray, etc for decades. Atlanta was until recently my home base since the beginning of the ’80s.

And the mention of “Dublin Murders” on StarX reminds me that we need to cancel our 7 day free evaluation of the service before we get charged.

#

After finishing watching “Dublin Murders” on StarX a couple of nights ago we checked out “Katla” on Netflix which is a (so far) quite moody Iclandic mystery/fantasy series. We’ve previously watched “Entrapped” and “Trapped” and notice the same actors turning up in this production. #video #streaming

Even though we are West Coast transplants I still enjoy using Radarscope to check the weather conditions in our old haunt of Decautur, Ga.

My wife has just tried to reactivate her Hello Fresh account taking advantage of a coupon code which she’d received just this morning. The site responded saying that the coupon code had expired! Clearly there’s a something amiss. I think she’ll wait again for another offer rather than reactivating at full price.

#

we saw a group of Orcas from the parking lot above Richmond Beach, WA a couple of days ago. They were far from shore and I have to admit that except for talking with a lady tracking them with a pair of binoculars, we’d have missed the siting.

#

It’s always something of a kick to see Mount Baker from downtown Edmonds. Today, even though it was overcast next to the ferry landing, the mountain was illuminated by the late afternoon sun. I grabbed my iPhone and captured this image after digitally zooming in probably a little too far. It’s times like these that I wish that I had my “proper” camera with me.

I really wanted to read the Heather Cox Richardson essay for January 2 which is an entry in her Letters from an American. Unfortunately, it is only available for subscribers and I am thinking that her essays used to be posted every day for anyone to read. I checked out subscribing and this is another case of paying $5.00 a month to read in full every entry with a subset being free. Of course, the cost of $5 isn’t a deal breaker except for the fact that these subscriptions do add up, and pretty soon we’re talking serious money just to read various articles behind firewalls.
