Looking for the best venue to watch Oppenheimer in Seattle.

I’m happy to see that my bookmark entries in pinboard.in are now getting archived again. I’m paying for this service and I’d not had sites being archived since mid March or so this year. I just saved a site and within a few minutes I notice it’s been archived. This is possibly related to the owner/developer of pinboard.in doing some work on the backend of the service recently.

And now I’m patiently waiting for an update of the Pins application for both MacOS and iOS. Pins for Pinboard is from a separate developer however and I’m a little concerned since there’s a history of good third party apps for pinboard.in eventually having their developers move onto other interests and not keep the software updated.

I like this paragraph from Heather Cox Richardson’s recent newsletter.

Greene incorrectly called this program “socialism,” which in fact means government ownership of production, as opposed to the government’s provision of benefits people cannot provide individually, a concept first put into practice in the United States by Abraham Lincoln and later expanded by leadership in both parties. The administration has stood firmly behind the idea—shared by LBJ and FDR, and also by Republicans Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower, among others—that investing in programs that enable working people to prosper is the best way to strengthen the economy.

Article describes how Marjorie Taylor Greene is criticizing the US Presidents’s Build Back Better plan in an attempt to presumably persuade some voters to vote Republican in the next election. The problem is that all of these Government programs are popular with the public.

This one’s taste is a little hard to describe but I like it. As the writer in this article says there’s a subtle cherry/cinnamon flavor to it.

Sandcastle competition on beach in Edmonds, WA this afternoon.

I’m looking forward to seeing my cousins on my mother’s side since I only have vague memories of visiting their house in Rotorua, NZ back in 1966. Showing my age here.

Our New Zealand trip is gradually coming together. Planes, Trains and automobiles!

Steven Novella of the Skeptics Guide to the Universe on the anti-vaccine beliefs of RFK Jr ending by calling him the Democrat’s Trump. When he is interviewed reporters need to ask him persistently about his anti-science attitudes.

So now I have a Bluesky account to go with my new Threads account but I think that I’m happy to stick around using Micro.blog. The community is definitely a little smaller but not so overwhelming.

#

So I got onto Threads once I downloaded the iPhone app but I’m still waiting for an invite to Bluesky.

Although we went out to escape the heat here in the Seattle region the lower level of the condominium where I am typing this is still only 71 degrees and we are due for a cool change tomorrow. I can’t be too upset about that! Maybe we won’t have to run the AC after all.

#

I like getting to see the latest Indiana Jones movie for only $7.00 a ticket at the Edmonds Cinema this afternoon.

#

Hunkering down in the lower level of our Condo where the temperature has great difficulty getting up to 70C. This is good on these early Seattle summer days where it’s over 80 outside.

I enjoyed the final episode of the final season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel last night. I’m sad to not have any more episodes to watch after getting to know these fascinating people over the last 5 years or so. I’m also old enough to identify with the era.

We didn’t get down to Richmond Beach for low tide because the parking lot was full. We did manage to find parking in Edmonds however just in time for the super low tide maximum.

#

I’m excited about the super low tides this week on Seattle shoreline. We are heading over to Richmond Beach today to check out the exposed sea creatures.

This morning I’m continuing on my reading of “A Handbook for New Stoics”. It has 52 week by week exercises but I’m just plowing through the book rather than taking it a week at a time. I’ve read other Stoics books so I’m more or less treating this one as something of a refresher on the subject. I do highly recommend it.

Looking at seals lounging about on a log at Bracket’s Landing Shoreline Sanctuary.

#

Main REI shop in Seattle with Mt Rainier/Tacoma painting in background.

#

Still learning about eBay bidding. Got to last 5 seconds and made bid but didn’t do a confirm. Next time!

#

The flowers are definitely blooming along the Edmonds shoreline.

In preparation for the upcoming Oppenheimer movie I have just finished reading “The Oppenheimer Alternative” by Robert Sawyer. It’s speculative fiction of course but the first part of the book is based on actual events. The book is also praised by the author of “American Prometheus” which (I gather) the movie is based upon.

#

A trip to the REI mothership is in our near future. This will involve a short excursion from Edmonds to downtown Seattle.

Loving this Post/Update to Micro.Blog Drafts Action by Donny Davis.

And everything is now back as before account-wise after I unsubscribed for a few days. I don’t know what I was thinking. 😊
