Its always worth listening to what Olbermann has to say.

It’s very cold here in Seattle, but we are heading out to make a visit to the Edmonds Library which has just reopened after being closed for months due to a water leak through the ceiling. We avoided the opening ceremony this morning and even this afternoon I’m sure that parking is going to be a problem.

Today I received a membership card and welcome letter in the mail from Scarecrow Video. I’m happy to be supporting this resource of almost 140,000 movies and the store is just down the road from us. Another reason I’m happy to be living in the Seattle region.

This interview on The Lincoln Project with author and historian Heather Cox Richardson is worth listening to.

I’ve just finished listening to the first MurderBot book by Martha Wells which I quite enjoyed. Its style kind is reminds me of early Heinlein juveniles. My daughter has been consuming these stories for done months now so I figured that I’d better get on board myself.

As long as I do it every day I can probably get away with a brisk walk of only 20 minutes to obtain the health benefits. At least that’s what ChatGPT 4 is saying!

#

Edmonds Pier where a seal is managing to eat the bait being used by some folks attempting to catch crabs. At least what my wife suspects.

#

The sun is coming out just on time for a walk at the Marina. The Windy app also predicated sun at this hour which makes me happy to be supporting that service.

#

We finally got around to buying a Blu-Ray DVD player after not having one since moving to the Pacific Northwest. I was wondering if there were still stores that rented DVDs and discovered Scarecrow Video with its inventory of almost 147,000 titles! And it’s just down the road from us. scarecrowvideo.org

This is our second Christmas living in Edmonds, WA and so far we like the climate. It helps that we just spent all of November in New Zealand!

#

A postcard that I sent to my daughter from New Zealand almost a month ago has just arrived at her place here in Seattle. As my daughter says, that seems like a bit too much time to deliver a card from one first-world country to another.

#

Just finished writing a review of our latest AirBnB stay which was in Auckland, New Zealand. Without fail, I have reviewed all of the AirBnB accommodations that we’ve stayed in over the years. I like to see what the host has to say about us which we only get to read on posting a review. Also, I think the feedback to the host is valuable which is another reason I continue to post reviews.

#

This photo of Mt Cook and the Southern Alps of New Zealand turned out pretty well.

#

My daughter wanted to know the make of plane we flew on from Auckland to Los Angeles and I was not able to tell her.

#

It’s quite a contrast traveling from sunny and warm Auckland late last week to cold, drizzly and dark (at 5pm) Seattle.

#

I realize that I’ve not written a thing on this blog in November. Blame this on our traveling in New Zealand for the whole month.

#

In reference to my entry about Sonoma I’m attempting to get a handle on the new predictive text capabilities.

#

I’m still recovering from a Trans-Pacific flight that ended this past Thursday.

#

I’m presently reading “Homeland” by Cory Doctorow and it’s definitely an interesting read these days considering how politics have changed in the years since its publication.

#

Oops. I accidentally upgraded my MacOS to Sonoma when I thought I was just doing a bug-fix update.

#

We’ve just completed watching all 3o episodes of the Chinese production “Three Body”. Episode 29 in particular is very tense and exciting but the whole show does not disappoint and certainly follows the major plot points in the book. I hope that the following volumes of the “Three Body Problem” series can be filmed although it might take a while. Of course I’m now curious to see how the Netflix series compares.

#

I’ve decided to try out passkeys on a couple of sites that support this method of login. So far it’s working but I’m being cautious about fully investing in using passkeys instead of passwords. In the meantime I’m reading about passkeys online and there’s a lot of information to digest.

#

I’m glad to finally get the latest 2023/2024 Covid vaccine today. At present Kaiser Permanente here in Seattle has it available for members on a walk-in basis as well as by appointment. I probably should have also gone ahead today and gotten the flu shot. I’ll do that in a few days.

Another review of the recent bio of Elon Musk. As a science fiction fan what I really want to know is whether Isaacson writes about the naming of the various SpaceX rockets and asks whether Elon Musk still reads the novels of Iain M. Banks, the author who inspired those name.
